IES Oklahoma City Section welcomes you to Emergency Lighting Solutions & Applications presented by Leon Hermans, of LVS INC – 1 IES CEU

About this Event:
EMERGENCY LIGHTING SOLUTIONS & APPLICATIONS with Leon Hermans

An in-depth look at emergency lighting solutions from a technical and code perspective. The first half of the presentation will focus on two popular power backup sources: emergency lighting inverters and battery packs. We will discuss applications, best practices related to LED loads, and how these products can meet your clients’ needs. Next, you will learn about emergency lighting controls, starting with the basics and then diving down into more complex topics such as:

  • Terminology and Technology – what is the difference between an EPC, GTD, ATS, ALCR, Shunt Relay, and Bypass Relay
  • Code changes – how do recent NEC revisions affect when to use UL924 and UL1008 control devices
  • Inverters & Controls – how can emergency lighting controls be efficiently integrated with inverters including 0-10V dimming or load shedding
  • New Technologies – how are emergency lighting controls being used with emerging control technologies including wireless, DMX, and more

Leon Hermans holds a Masters and Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Leon has over a decade of experience in lighting controls and emergency lighting. Leon was President of Low Voltage Systems Inc. (LVS Inc.) until its acquisition by Myers EPS in 2019. Leon is now General Manager of LVS and VP Of Product Development at Myers EPS. Leon directly oversees product development and engineering of LVS’ emergency lighting solutions including emergency lighting inverters, UL924 bypass relays, UL1008 transfer switches, and load shedding controls. He has served on numerous UL task groups related to emergency lighting controls including the BCELTS and UL924/NEC2017 Emergency Lighting Control groups.
